Milk In My Coffee

Eric Jerome Dickey

Milk in My Coffee by Eric Jerome Dickey follows Jordan Greene, a southern black man who moves to the Big Apple to work on Wall Street. Jordan is the epitome of the black man that society often discredits; hardworking, educated, loyal, honest, and good-hearted. His numerous encounters with racism don’t hinder the fact that he is a proud black man and wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Then comes Kimberly Chavers, a young attractive woman who has a mind of her own that doesn’t mind stating things as they are. Jordan is immediately drawn to her, but there’s only one thing: she is a white woman. For a proud black man like him, that’s a problem. He is currently in a relationship with J’nette a black women which is the opposite of Kimberly, not just in race but how she interacts with Jordan. While J’nette continues to irritate Jordan with her constant need of affection, Jordan is starting to grow closer to Kimberly. Often he spends more quality time with her, as they bond over family values and love. Soon the two of them become so attached that Jordan friends question if what he has with Kimberly is authentic or a phase.

Lex Reads Review

Eric Jerome Dickey’s literary voice is unmatched. His way of capturing a character and telling a well-rounded story will always have readers hooked on every page. His depiction of black males in society is positive yet realistic, showing us that not all blacks struggle and that we don’t have the same story as it is often depicted in literature. If you want to laugh, learn, and fall in love, pick up Milk in My Coffee.
